Ranthambore National Park is located about 13.5 kilometers from the city of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. Located at the junction of the Aravali and Vindhya hill ranges, this is one of the finest places to view wild animals, especially as they are used to being stared at here. The park covers an area of approximately 400 sq km, and if combined with the area of Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary area, is around 500 sq km. Ranthambhore National Park is dotted with structures that remind you of bygone eras. There are numerous water bodies scattered all across the park, which provide perfect relief to the wild animals during the scorching hot days in summers. A huge fort, after which the park is named, towers over the park atop a hill. There are many ruins of bygone eras scattered all over the jungle, which give it a unique, wonderful and mixed flavor of nature, history and wildlife. Tigers at Ranthambhore National park have been known to even hunt in full view of human visitors.

History of Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve Ranthambhore National Park was established initially as Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955 by the Government of India. In 1973, it was declared as one of the Project Tiger reserves in India. It was on 1st November, 1980 that Ranthambhore was declared a national park.

During the summer season from April to June, the temperature can go as high as 40℃. However, during this season, the chances of spotting tigers & other animals are quite high as they visit the water holes to quench their thirst.

During the monsoon season, from July to September, several zones of the Ranthambhore National Park remain closed for visitors. The core of the park with Gates 1-5 is closed, while the buffer zone, with Gates 6-10, remains open for visitors.

The winter season, which starts from October & lasts till March, is a great time to visit Ranthambhore National Park for its pleasant weather & the numerous opportunities for spotting the animals as they bask under the sun.

Jaipur International Airport is the nearest airport to Ranthambhore, situated at a distance of around 200 kilometers. From the airport, you can hire taxis & private vehicles to reach the park.

Sawai Madhopur Railway Station is the nearest railway station, situated about 14 kilometers from Ranthambhore National Park. Jaipur Railway Station is located around 200 kilometers from the park. Both of them enjoy good rail connectivity to the major cities of India.

Ranthambore is connected to Delhi via NH 11A & NH8, while Udaipur & Allahabad are connected to it via NH 76. SH 24 connects Ranthambore to Jaipur, while Agra & Bharatpur are connected to it via SH 1. Delhi is located 381 km, Agra 239 km, Udaipur 388 km & Mumbai 1031 km from Ranthambhore National Park.
